About us

Our recipe cookbook, shared with the world.

I'm Mari and my husband is Jacob. I make most of the recipes, edit, film, and write everything on this site. Jacob occasionally makes a recipe or two when I need a break; he builds the website, takes the photos, and is our designated taste tester.

Mari Petrosky, who cooks, films, and writes every recipe on Happy Feets and Paws.

What makes us different from other recipe websites?

We upload unique flavors from across the world. Every recipe we publish is one we have tested and enjoyed. If we make a recipe and it is not good, we will not upload it. Some large websites focus on bulk, publishing as many recipes as they can. We focus on a select few that we have enjoyed and make regularly. Think of this site as our recipe cookbook shared with the world.

Our videos take you through all the details, making it easy to follow along. Every now and then we sprinkle in a little travel and adventure when money and time permit. We also want to store our memories on YouTube to remember the great adventures we have had together.

How we cook and test

All of our Filipino recipes are authentic and made by a Filipina. Our Hawaiian recipes feature some of the hidden secrets from some of the finest chefs in Hawaii; many are so unique you cannot find them anywhere else. The American recipes are a short curated list provided by family and friends and tested against many online versions; we tested many and only kept the best.

We have found that with many ingredients, choosing different brands does not always give great results. Our goal is for you to create our recipes with the same results we had, so when it matters we name the exact product. Coconut milk is the best example: we used three or four types for our Biko recipe and only one brand would create the coconut curds properly. Rice is another; you will get significantly different results between brands and types.

Occasionally we link to broad searches such as salt, pepper, or canning salt so you can see a list of products to choose from. Some links, such as coconut milk, go directly to specific brands because we test specific products.

These links point to Amazon for convenience only. We tried the Amazon affiliate program to keep ads off the site, but most of our readers are outside the United States and did not use the links, so Amazon closed our account (we think we earned about three dollars over eight months). We keep the links so you can find the exact products quickly, and we earn nothing from them.

Ad-free, on purpose

We never wanted ads on our site; it is much of the reason we started happyfeetsandpaws.com. The site is ad-free, with no sponsored recipes and no paywall. If you would like to support us, subscribing to our YouTube channel and sharing a recipe you enjoyed does more than you would think.
